Start with the job

Cost starts with what the website needs to change: generate inquiries, reduce manual work or sell products. A landing page with one form and a portal with several user roles require different processes, even if both look minimal.

Count journeys, not screens

Unique workflows matter: search, filtering, checkout, moderation and notifications. Each needs design, implementation and failure testing. One checkout screen can be more involved than ten informational pages.

Content is part of the project

Copy, photography, translation and catalogue structure affect the schedule. Agree who produces and approves each asset and when it will be ready. Prepared content reduces rework.

What a quote should contain

Compare more than the total. A proposal should describe deliverables, acceptance criteria, review rounds, client dependencies and exclusions such as hosting, licences, APIs and ongoing support.

How to reduce the scope

Choose one core user journey for the first release. Postpone features without a demonstrated need. Protect the quality of the main workflow and spread improvements across later iterations.
